CA0889 Pair of Bronzes Jean Qui Rit & Jean Qui Pleure after Houdon
A good quality pair of 19th Century patinated bronze cabinet busts of a child, Jean Qui Rit and Jean Qui Pleure (Jean laughing and Jean crying), after Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) and based on the 18th Century poem by Voltaire about the fast changing emotions of humans, capable of depression in the morning and pleasure in the evening. Nicely turned ebonised wooden socles. France, circa 1850.
