CA0796 Early French Empire Portico Mantel Clock by Morize
Early 19th Century Consulate/French Empire period marble and gilt bronze portico clock signed 'Morize a Paris'. Belge Noir marble base with elegant white marble portico surmounted by classical urns overflowing with fruit and flowers. Finely cast and chased ormolu stars above Egyptian maidens. 8 day silk suspension movement housed in a central drum with fine ormolu Empire style drapery. Classic white enamel face with refined bezel and gilt bronze Breguet style hands. Associated starburst pendulum. Morize is recorded in Tardy as working in the Rue de la Vieille-Draperie in 1806 and Rue Saint-Antoine between 1812-20. Paris, circa 1805.
