Fine Grand Tour Labrum
A quite beautiful and delicately carved small scale 19th century Grand Tour Italian siena marble model reduction of a classical Roman Labrum or Tazza in the manner of the workshop of Benedetto Boschetti (Rome 1820 -1870). A very similar full size version can be seen in the 'Gabinetto delle Maschere' in the Vatican Museum in Rome and is probably the inspiration for this piece. The interior bowl carved with exquisite flower heads and framed by a classic egg and dart edging. The elaborately carved ribbed exterior with foliate designs to each corner sits on a fluted spreading stem mounted on a marmo cipollino marino block base. Rome, circa 1850.
