CA1037 Large French Empire Hercules and the Apple of Hesperides Clock
Classic early 19th century French Empire ormolu gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock depicting one of the twelve labours of Hercules/Herakles, stealing the apple of Hesperides. Beautifully cast and chased this large size clock is surmounted by a patinated bronze of Hercules with his trademark club, the apple in his other hand. The movement is housed in a tree stump with a gilt bronze face and patinated bronze Breguet style moon hands. The front embellished with a large mount featuring the weapons of Hercules and a centralised lions mask. The wonderful feet are representations of lion skins. French, circa 1820.
