CA1016 French early 19thC Belisarius Mantel Clock
Large French early 19th century Restauration period patinated bronze and Siena marble mantel clock. The marble base surmounted by a superb quality bronze from the story of the Byzantine General Belisarius, blinded by the Emperor Justinian I, reduced to begging for alms at the Pincian Gate in Rome. A popular story at the time this bronze is based on the famous 1781 painting by Jacques-Louis David. Silvered dial signed BINET BR. ET CIE. 8 day silk suspension movement. France, circa 1825.
