CA0745 18th Century Louis XVI Amore Clock
Superb late 18th Century Louis XVI period ormolu gilt bronze and marble clock symbolic of the need to nurture love. Surmounted by a classic vision of an eighteenth century female perched on a luxurious tassled cushion two winged putti compete for her attention. The movement encased in a barrel held aloft by two winged sphinxes. A clock with very similar sphinxes can be seen in the Queen's Golden Cabinet in Versaille. Eight day silk suspension. The face is signed 'Lieutard Horloger du Roy Paris' for Jean-Joseph Lieutard active between 1767-1791. France, circa 1790.
