CA1047 Fine French Empire Venus and Amore Clock
A quite superb and impressive early 19th century French Empire ormolu gilt bronze and marbre vert mantel clock. A visual feast of classical references to love. Surmounted by a semi nude figure of a seated Venus withholding her son's, Amore, bow. The chair is a fantastic interpretation of high Empire furnishing, the case embellished with erotic statues from antiquity. Clean, bright and breathtaking. Eight day silk suspension movement signed 'à Paris'. France circa 1810.
