Rare French Empire 'La Paix' Mantel Clock

Exceptional French Directoire/Early Empire ormolu gilt and patinated bronze 'La Paix' clock. Bellona, the sister of Mars sits astride a cannon its barrel lowered as a sign of peace. The elaborate frieze symbolising the age of love and peace replacing war. The bronze work attributted to Pierre-Philippe Thomire. Eight day silk suspension movement. France circa 1800.
