CA1117 Allegory of Music Mantel Clock by Pons
Early 19th Century French Empire period gilt bronze figural allegorical clock by Honore Pons. Surmounted by a muse playing a harp it represents the arts and music. Pons formed the Guild of 'Fabrique d'Horologerie de Saint-Nicolas-d'Ailermont' and is credited with being instrumental in the improvement of French clock movements after being bought in by Napoleon in 1806. Made a Chevalier of the 'Legion d'Honneur' he retired in 1847. Stamped Pons 1827.
