CA0239 Fine Empire Erigone Seduced by Dionysus Mantel Clock
Stunning example of a fine early 19th century French Empire period gilt ormolu and patinated bronze mantel clock surmounted by an illustration of Ovids story of Erigone seduced by Dionysus disguised as a bunch of grapes. Combining classical with contemporary taste it depicts a scantily clad Erigone lounging on an Empire period style chaise longue, admiring the grapes. Patinated bronze base with gilt bronze ormolu mounts wine barrel style feet. Eight day silk suspension movement, enamel dial with Breguet hands. France, circa 1810.
