CA0228 Early 19th century bronze of the Trojan Hector

A fine quality neoclassical early 19th century French patinated bronze of a fallen Greek or Trojan warrior in a defensive pose with his shield raised above his head. Similar in style to the statue of Alexander the Great by Charles Leboeuf dit Nanteuil in the Jardin des Tuileries. This bronze is sometimes seen paired with a bronze of Achilles and is therefore generally referred to as the Trojan Hector. Superb bronze of good quality with a beautiful, even patina, well cast and chased.  The warrior is depicted fallen on a bronze rendition of the battlefield. Presented on a substantial rouge marble and Belgium black marble block base. Paris, France, circa 1830.
