CA0229 Rare Grand Tour Bronze Bust of a Youthful Dionysus

Interesting, enigmatic mid 19th century, probably Italian, Grand Tour patinated bronze bust of a youthful Dionysus or bacchanalian, after the antique. Portrayed with characteristic berries, flowers and vine leaves in his hair and an animal skin draped over his shoulder. Similarities can be seen between this bust and the classical Praxiteles statue of the Resting Satyr. Fine quality clean casting and even patina. Presented on a red Serpentine marble block base set upon a Sienna marble slab.
