CA0258 Grand Tour Borghese Gladiator on Breccia marble base

Early 19th Century Grand Tour patinated bronze of the Borghese Gladiator, after the Hellenistic original statue discovered by Cardinal Scipion Borghese in the early 17th Century. Good quality casting, dark patination presented on an interesting two tone Breccia marble block base. In 1808, the original statue left Italy for the Louvre, following the purchase of the collection of Prince Camille Borghese by Napoleon. Attractive mid size bronze of the statue described as the perfect example of the male nude in motion. Italy, circa 1830.
