CA0264 Fine French bronze Bacchanal grouping in the manner of Clodion

Quite superb, fine quality French 19th century neoclassical patinated and gilt bronze ormolu mythical Bacchanal grouping of an estatic satyr and a nymph very much in the manner of Claude Michel (1738-1814), known as Clodion. The figures depicted in a dance with the nymph holding a vine wreath in her raised hand. On the ground are a cup, a decanter, a marotte and a tamborine. The Bacchanalia were Roman festivals for Bacchus/Dionysus the god of wine, freedom and intoxication to celebrate the grape harvest. Green marble column base with milled empire style ormolu decoration and block base with applied mounts. Possibly once adapted for a light. France, circa 1890.
