CA0277 Very Rare Grand Tour floor standing bronze Athenienne
Fantastic very rare full sized Italian Grand Tour archeological style verdigris patinated bronze floor standing tri-legged Athénienne, after the antique. Inspired by Roman originals, such as the ‘Isis Tripod’ discovered at the Temple of Isis in Pompeii in the 1760's, these Neoclassical form Athéniennes were used as jardinières, washstands, perfume burners as well as braziers throughout the 19th century. Large shallow circular bowl with stylised acanthus edge and lobed exterior. The legs ornamented with very fine ram's head terms, foliate mounts and hoof feet. Classical acanthus leaf designs to the interior and base. Italy, circa 1860.
