CA0279 French Empire caryatid bronze candlesticks in the manner of Galle
A fine pair of 19th century French Empire caryatid type classically inspired patinated and gilt bronze ormolu candlesticks in the manner of Claude Galle (1757-1815). Circular bases decorated with typical Empire period palmettes; caryatid style footed tapered stem surmounted by three female Vestal type busts with candle cups decorated with further classical palmettes. Very much in the style of Galle, who, by 1810, had made this style of candlestick very fashionable throughout France enhanced by publications of similar designs in catalogues of Parisian designers and copied throughout the 19th century.
