CA0292 Superb bronze head of the Trojan Priest Laocoön
Fantastically expressive, probably early 20th century, patinated bronze rendition of the head of the Trojan priest of Apollo, Laocoön, who, with his sons is being attacked by a sea serpent. The original was excavated in Rome in 1506 and placed on public display in the Octagonal Court in the Vatican in Rome where it can be seen to this day. Emotive depiction of his torment presented on a heavy Sienna marble block base. Probably Italian, circa 1900.
