Superb, 19th century patinated bronze library bust of Napoleon after Antoine-Denis Chaudet (1763-1810). Unsigned, classic composition, bare headed 'herm form'. Dark even patination presented on a Rouge Griotte marble tiered block base with a gilt bronze ormolu architrave. Chaudet's original model of this portrait of Napoleon was created in 1799 with the final marble version completed in 1804. Adopted as the official portrait of Napoleon it was widely disseminated throughout the Empire. Very decorative good quality example to add to any serious Napoleonic collection. France, circa 1880.
