Wonderfully playful substantial pair of French 19th century gilt bronze four flame candelabra depicting the birth of Venus emerging from the sea. Beautifully designed and cast, the central figures of Venus sit on stylised waves and hold aloft four aquatic foliate stems and candle cups. Stylised shell motif bases in the late 18th century Louis XVI style. Finely detailed, very rare decorative pair. France, circa 1860.
