CA0326 Rare Pair of Plaques of Napoleon and Alexander of Russia by Galle

Superb and rarely seen pair of early 19th century gilt bronze or copper plaques representing the Emperor Napoleon and Alexander I, Emperor of Russia, by Claude Galle. The Napoleon plaque inscribed 'NAPOLEON EMPEREUR DES FRANCAIS ET ROI D'ITALIE' and the Alexander plaque 'ALEXANDER.I.IMP.RUSSORUM'. Both plaques signed 'GALLE FECIT', with original domed glass fronta and remarkably one retaining the original paper label to its reverse. Probably issued to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Tilsit in 1807. Identical frames and loops for hanging.
