CA0314 English Regency muse clock by Baetens

Beautiful, early 19th century Neoclassical English Regency ormolu gilt bronze and white marble mantel clock by Baetens after models of 'L'Etude' and 'La Philosophie' by Sèvres. Typical drum shaped movement case surmounted by a cresting eagle and flanked by seated classical female figures each holding a book inscribed 'V.B. Fecit No.63 King St. Soho London'. Set on a white marble stepped base with wellcast applied ormolu mounts and four fine toupee feet. White enamel dial with beautiful engine turned bezel and elegant Breguet moon hands. Chain driven fusee movement probably by James Tupman. English, Soho, London, circa 1820.
